Safaricom, Kenya's biggest communications providers, contributing to Kenya's GDP by 6.5% in 2018.The company has the UN sustainable development goals into its broader strategy, and environmental factors as the core to realize commercial sustainability and success.It also makes Safaricom made to achieve a zero carbon emissions in 2050.
How can we help
To help Safaricom realize this commitment, the company chose to cooperate with the carbon trust, take a strategic approach to managing the impact of its activities on the environment.This includes implementation of multiple projects from different levels and dimensions solve the problem of the company's sustainability, including:
- Using internationally recognized best practices to draw emissions path, to ensure that the company's targets reflect climate science
- For Safaricom sold/purchased products and services to establish three carbon footprint
- With best practices in offset option
- Let employees involved, through creating a custom tools and training to employees, to reduce their environmental impact, this tool can measure their personal carbon footprint, and highlight the areas of emissions reduction
Plan ahead
Safaricom has been committed to achieving its formulated a series of targets, including emissions 43% by 2030 and to 2050 in 2017, based on the goal of 74% reduction, this goal has won the "science initiative" carbon target for approval.Specific measures include reducing dependence on high carbon hair diesel power and increase of the use of renewable energy.They intend to certified by buying carbon offsets to solve the remaining emissions, to achieve zero carbon emissions.
Our goal is to become zero carbon group in 2050.In order to achieve this goal, we are looking for the right partner to provide support.We choose to cooperate with the carbon trust because they are in the long term experience and expertise in the field of carbon and climate change.
